The Malaysian Students’ Society (LUMSS) have won two awards at the recent Malaysian Student Film Festival for their outstanding film production Rasa Sayang

Rasa Sayang, meaning a loving feeling in the Malay Language, is a mockumentary short film produced by the Lancaster University Malaysian Students' Society. The film tells the story of a Malaysian Society struggling to organise an in-person event in the midst of a pandemic. Throughout the film, you will follow the challenges faced by the society execs as they navigate through all sorts of unexpected twists and turns, only to discover the true meaning of the Malaysian Spirit.

Zaim Ridzal, the writer and director of the film, said: “Rasa Sayang is a movie that embraces students in Lancaster, more specifically Malaysian students in Lancaster. It’s an ode to the hope which still lies within a world which can sometimes seem scary. But with love, laughter and unity there’s always hope.”

The film secured an impressive third place for Best Director and an outstanding second place for Overall Production at the Malaysian Student Film Festival. The festival was held over four weekends from 5 June to 27 June. It was an international effort with students from Singapore, Brunei and Indonesia involved in the process as cast and crew.

You will be able to watch the full short film on the MSFF YouTube channel in early August. In the meantime, check out @lumssmnight and @msff.live on Instagram for more information.
