4-point fixtures

There are lots of fixtures during Roses – 142 if we want to be precise about it. All our first team fixtures are designated the maximum point allocation for a Roses fixture: four points.

There are 65 four-point fixtures across Roses, and these are the ones to watch for maximum impact on the overall score. With a total of 344 points available this year, it means that as soon as one institution crosses the 172.5 mark, they will win the event and take the trophy home!

From Men’s to Open

You may have noticed that some of our fixtures have had a change in designation. Now, instead of Men’s, over 30 of our fixtures have switched designation to Open.

This decision comes from this year's Roses Committee in a step towards bolstering inclusivity at Roses. Following research into each events National Governing Bodies (NGBs), the Roses Committee were able to change the designation of 34 ‘Men’s’ fixtures to ‘Open’.

Men’s events at Roses now only exist in sports where, due to NGB restrictions, it is not permitted for players of different genders to compete with or against each other. Where a Women’s and Open fixture exist at the same level within a given discipline of a sport the following eligibility applies:

  • Any individual who identifies as female and whose sex assigned at birth is female is only eligible to compete in the Women’s event.
  • Any individual who identifies as female and whose sex assigned at birth is not female is eligible to compete in the Women’s event, provided they also meet the eligibility requirements of the NGB transgender participation policy for that event.
  • Any individual who does not identify as female and whose sex assigned at birth is female is eligible to compete in the Women’s event, unless they fail to meet any NGB transgender participation policy for that event.
  • All individuals who do not meet the above criteria compete in the Open event.

This is a step towards making Roses an event where students of all genders and identities feel included. That said, the Committee recognise that this is in no way a resolution to the participation of trans students in sport; it is instead another step on the journey towards inclusivity.

Keep up to date with Roses Live
