Eligible ERS staff to be furloughed

The students' union is working hard to process the furlough scheme for our student staff.

We are working with the ERS (Employment and Recruitment Service) to identify the students who are eligible to be furloughed through the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.

Those who are eligible for furlough will be notified individually by email. The Government furlough scheme pays 80% of workers’ wages. In addition, the students' union has committed to top that up to 100% for anyone furloughed. This means over 200 students will receive full pay.

However, due to variable working hours and multiple engagements, this all has to be calculated and those affected will be contacted in due course to tell them what their pay will be and when it will be paid.

A spokesman for the students union said: “We do understand that this is a difficult time for many students. We want to assure those affected that the union is working as fast as it can to process this and to make sure they are paid as quickly as possible.”

We want to say a huge, heartfelt thank you to all of the students still who are still working, many of which on the front line, during this pandemic. From those working in our Central Supermarket, to those keeping the union running, you are providing essential services and we can't thank you enough.

Any student suffering hardship is urged to use the Advice service to access assistance that is available.

The union is also offering emergency food boxes for those in need, please don't hesitate to email advice@lancastersu.co.uk if you need one.
