After 10 years at the students' union, Darren Axe is already a well-known and well-cherished figure within the union, but has this year received special recognition from the university with a Staff Award.
The University Staff Awards celebrate individuals achievements and those who have made "impressive contributions to our University, and done so during a turbulent time".
Darren Axe has been awarded the prestigious Environmental Sustainability Award in recognition of his contribution to the Lancaster University community and beyond. The Environmental Sustainability Award "seeks to recognise, promote and reward new environmental sustainability projects and initiatives which have a significant positive environmental impact on the behaviour of staff, students & visitors, or result in significant reductions in carbon emissions by the University or University staff, students and
visitors".

"The impact Darren has had on Lancaster University is difficult to measure, this is an individual who has started a movement and changed the hearts and minds of young people and impacted generations to come"
"Darren is instrumental to environmental sustainability, not only within the students’ union, but also within the university as a whole, often liaising with facilities and external partners.
