All week we are collaborating with the university on Global Experiences Week, and each day we're featuring a different story celebrating the international outlook of our students...

The students’ union puts on a huge number of events throughout the year, from Welcome Week to our end-of-year Extravs – and at every one you’ll find members of our Events Crew holding it all together.

As well as making a huge contribution to making a huge range of cultural events happen, they’re an international team too – a close-knit bunch of incredibly hard-working students behind the scenes at just about everything the union does.

They’ve made a big impact on Global Experiences Week, assisting with numerous events including the two Global Cafes in Alexandra Square.

Crew supervisor Donval Parker is from Turks and Caicos Islands and well as working as a member of the crew has represented fellow students as an engineering course rep.

He said: "Working as part of the events crew means I get to witness amazing student performances like the ones we’ve seen at Global Experiences Week! I often can’t believe the talent we have among students at Lancaster - they are just students, not professionals, but the amount of time and effort that goes into it is incredible. Even here in the crew, I'm surrounded by such talent and energy!”

Fellow supervisor Alex Sumpner is a British member of the crew, but he has enjoyed the opportunity his role has given him to discover more about Lancaster’s diverse international community.

He said: "This job means I get to support students make their ideas happen and the diversity of our students means these ideas are always exciting and a new experience."
