As a registered charity, the general control and management of our Students' Union is overseen by a Board of Trustees. Two-thirds of the Trustee Board is made up of student members and officers, elections are happening now for the available Student Trustee vacancies.

Our Trustee Board is 12 people: four Full Time Officers, four External Trustees and four Student Trustees. You can find out more about who they are and what they do here: https://lancastersu.co.uk/trustees.

We are currently holding elections for Student Trustee vacancies. Voting in these elections will open at 10am on Tuesday 26th November and close at 6pm on Thursday 28th November at www.lancastersu.co.uk/vote

What positions are up for grabs?

In accordance with our Articles of Association, we are required to have four Student Trustees on the Board of Trustees. We have an established pattern of recruiting two Student Trustees in the Summer Term and two in Michaelmas Term each year to comply with the requirements for cross-campus election. We are also required to have at least one postgraduate Student Trustee.

Following resignations and the end of existing terms in office, we are in the position where all four Student Trustee positions are due to be vacant at the end of this term. The Governance Sub-Committee has convened to agree measures to mitigate this situation, ensure compliance with our Articles, and ensure full representation for students.

As a result, we have made some last-minute changes to the roles that are now available in this election. We will now be electing:
â€¢    2x 12 month positions (up to December 2025), as original advertised
â€¢    plus 1x 6 month position (up to July 2025).

The addition position will allow us to fill Trustee Board whilst maintaining a vacancy for a current postgraduate. All candidates in this election are currently undertaking undergraduate study.

This change does not change the rules of the election, nor how votes will be cast. It does, however, impact how the votes are counted to reflect the addition role available.

The count will follow this process:

1) We will reserve the first 2 (12 month) positions for candidates who are not due to graduate in July and therefore available for the full 12 month term. Other candidates will be excluded from this count and votes will be counted as normal amongst the remaining candidates.
 2) The remaining 1 (6 month) position will be open for all remaining candidates: those due to graduate in July and those unsuccessful in step 1. The candidates successfully elected in step 1, will be excluded and the votes counted as normal.
