Mental Health campaigner, Sam Tyrer of Change Talks came to campus to give a talk on reducing stigma and raising awareness around mental health.
Delivering the talk to members of sports teams and others, Sam talked openly about his own struggle with anxiety and depression following the loss of close family and friends. Sam gave up on himself, failing exams and gaining weight until one day, when he was at his lowest, someone asked him asked him one simple question, āAre you ok son?ā.
In 2017 5,821 suicides were recorded in Great Britain. Of these, 75% were men and 25% were women. Suicide is the most common cause of death for men aged 20-49 years in England and Wales.[i]
