Nominations OPEN for LCO and College JCR Positions!

Friday 07-10-2022 - 12:00

You can now nominate yourself for the roles of LCO Racial & Ethnic Minority Officer, LCO Women+ Officer and lots of college JCR positions.

Nominate yourself using the link below and submitting both a picture and a 750 max word manifesto!

Quick tips for writing a manifesto

  1. Don't spend 700 of your 750 words sharing your life story. Give students an idea of the values you hold and what will change for the better with you in the position.
  2. Bullet-point your manifesto points or the priorities you'd focus on at the beginning of your manifesto. There's going to be a few other candidates and elections happening, so you'll want to stand out quickly.
  3. You're trying to engage as many people as possible, try talking to people outside of your usual friend group. Ask other people in the college what could be better, or

what do they want to see continued, then incorporate their thoughts into your manifesto!

What do I need to do to nominate myself?

You will need to nominate yourself at lancastersu.co.uk/nominations and submit a manifesto. This should be a description of what you would set out to achieve if elected.

LCO Women+ Officer

This officer will lead the implementation and promotion of campaigns for women and non-binary people at the university, and be responsible for leading the awareness of their issues.

Racial & Ethnic Minority Officer

This officer will lead the implementation and promotion of RAEM students' campaigns and shall encourage the Union membership to also participate in RAEM students' campaigns.

JCR Officers

Each of the eight Undergraduate Colleges has a JCR Executive. Every college is slightly different in the roles they have on their JCR but all of them have a president; at least one vice president; welfare officers, social secretaries, communications officers and two sports representatives. Members of their own college elect these student officers in Michaelmas term.

These are the people who organise and run your college socials and campaigns across the year, from Fresher's Week and Christmas ball through to Extrav! These are voluntary positions, acting for one calendar year to represent you at both College and University level.

What is expected of me if I’m elected?

If you are elected you will be expected to attend appropriate meetings, and hold events and campaigns for students at Lancaster. For JCR members, it will depend on the role you are elected into as to what you will do specifically.
