Student volunteers have a made a special festive film for local children to enjoy after Covid restrictions caused disruption to traditional school nativity plays and pantos.

Members of Lancaster University Theatre Group and student TV station LA1TV worked together to produce a film of students reading the famous Clement Clarke Moore poem 'A Visit from St. Nicholas' to be shown in schools around the Lancaster area.

The project was coordinated by the Children and Young People's Partnership team at Lancaster University Students' Union.

Students' Union Development Manager Nik Marsdin said: "With children and schools not being able to go to panto this year we thought we'd try to fill a tiny bit of the void with a classic Christmas story for all the children.

"All the hard work our student volunteers put into this was amazing, and we hope it brings a little bit of Christmas cheer."

The film features an introduction from the university Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Engagement Professor Dame Sue Black.

She said: "It's really regrettable that trips to the theatre and so many of those magical holiday moments simply haven't happened this year, so we decided to bring the theatre to Lancaster's schoolchildren.

"This poem is my favourite yuletime story, and I read it to my girls every Christmas Eve as they were growing up."
