Lancaster University Students’ Union's Children & Young People’s Partnership launches the LU PenPals project across the region drawing on the knowledge, enthusiasm and experiences of Lancaster University students

The Children & Young People’s partnership would customarily have many students acting as classroom assistants throughout the district and the LU PenPals project has given many of those students a chance to be a part of a positive community focused project and share their experiences with children across the area.

LU PenPals sees a blend of weekly video diaries combined with traditional letter writing which is something that has appealed to Primary Schools as many have utilized the project in a variety of different yet exciting ways.

Each week sees a different topic discussed by the LU PenPals as well as what they have been studying that week. Food & Drink was a particular favourite given the many amazing things to eat around the world!

Mr Lloyd from St. Bees Village Primary School said: "Working with Lancaster University Students’ Union has been such a positive experience. This project has allowed us to reach out to students and find out about places such as China, Slovakia, France and even places around the UK without needing to leave the classroom".

LU Penpal Volunteer Xuecong Wang said: "I hope they can be encouraged to immerse themselves in different cultures, learn each other’s stories and in turn broaden their perspectives. I enjoy this project as it allows me to produce videos and create content for children to enjoy and be inspired by".

If you would like to get involved in the project or find out more, please contact our Opportunities Coordinator, Mark.
