It’s a brand new year and a brand new term here at Lancaster and we’re aware that lots of you will be coming back to the university with a drive to try new things and to get 2019 off to a great start so we thought we’d remind you of some of the ways that the Union can help you do this.

It’s never too late to discover a new society, sport or group here at Lancaster and our Refreshers fair will be taking place on Wednesday January 23 to help give you a flavour of what you can get involved with. In Lancaster Square by County Main there will be interactive activities running from 2pm and our Clubs and Societies Fair will take place in the LICA building between 4-7. The event is a smaller version of the Fresher’s Fair which took place in Michaelmas term and it will feature a selection of the over the 200 clubs and societies so why not head down and see what you can get involved with?

If you don’t manage to find something which catches your eye then remember that all of our clubs and societies, and information on how to contact them, can be found on our website here. And, if there’s still not something which catches your eye then why not take on the challenge this new year of setting up a society of your own? You can find out how to do this here or you can pop into the union for a friendly chat about this with no commitments if you later change your mind.

Attempting Dry January? Taking up a new society could help you stay social in an environment that isn't necessarily the pub so that you can fight off the temptation of grabbing a pint (there’s not much of January left, you can do it – we believe in you!) you might even make some new friends to go to one of our college bars with once January ends.

Trying Veganuary? To make sure that you’re not just living off the new Greggs sausage rolls, check out LUVeg, our Vegan and Vegetarian society, and see if they have any hints and tips to help you with this lifestyle change.

Making it your mission to get on top of your degree this term? We have a number of societies based around your different subject areas where you’re likely to find lots of opportunities to help you succeed in your academic interests. We also have a dedicated Advice Team here in the Union so if you find that you are struggling and are looking for some support this year you can get in touch here and we’ll help however we can.

We’re here to support you in making your university experience the best that it can be and we hope that you’ll find something in the many opportunities we’re offering that can help this happen.
