Community links cultivated by your students’ union have been helping to spread some Christmas cheer.
Earlier this term the union's Community and Internationalisation Team ordered some Christmas trees to decorate our Winter Wonderland Market - but when bad weather forced cancellation of the event, the trees were no longer needed.
The union works with a number of local charities to help students find volunteering opportunities, and so we got in touch with our friends at Recycling Lives, who knew Stanley’s Community Centre in Morecambe would find a good home for the trees. All the trees will now be donated to local families.
The trees themselves were ordered from Piccadilly Gardens, a Lancaster social care charity providing support for people to participate in a wide range of activities.
Students’ union Vice-President (Welfare & Community) Grishma Bijukumar said: “It’s wonderful that we’ve been able to work with two amazing local charities to help make Christmas extra special for local families.”
The Community and Internationalisation team also supported the student led Food Bank collection on campus.
