Your students’ union has secured funding of £88,000 to help our sports teams perform at their best when they face York at Roses 2019.

The money, provided by the university, comes as the result of the union’s successful Sports Development Fund bid and will be used to pay for coaching and extra competition for our Sport Lancaster Plus and Sport Lancaster clubs and societies.

Additional funding will be made available to our Focus Sports – Netball, Badminton, Hockey, Rugby Union, Fencing and Swimming & Water Polo – for strength & conditioning and physiotherapy sessions to help them perform at their best.

Vice-President (Activities) Toby Wilkinson said: “Securing this funding for our sports clubs is amazing and will make a huge difference to our teams.

“Last year was Lancaster’s best ever year for sport, with an overwhelming victory over York in our home Roses and some brilliant performances from our teams in national leagues and other competitions.

“We’re committed to seeing that success continue and this funding will be important in helping our teams keep their momentum and continue to improve as we seek the elusive away win when we travel to York for Roses 2019.”

As well as securing their biggest ever win at Roses, 2018 was packed with success for Lancaster’s athletes. Highlights included:
