LUBDS offers professional lessons in Latin American and Ballroom dancing every Monday night. As well as this, we offer a wide range of activities suiting all members' needs such as socials, competitions, performances, the opportunity to learn over 12 different dance styles with no experience necessary, and much more...
We have a thriving Beginners team, ranking 4th in the UK in 2024 and 2025, as well as an active casual dancer community, so no matter what you want to get out of joining the society we can promise you a fantastic experience! Our Novice and Open couples are also highly successful with consistent finals at every competition including 1st and 2nd at Nationals.
Our annual events include our Charity Showcase, Lancaster Competition, Roses, NUDC (AKA Northerns, where we compete against other Northern and Scottish universities), IVDC (AKA Nationals, a country-wide competition hosted at the Blackpool Winter Gardens), Alumni Weekend, Christmas Dinner and Summer Meal.
We pride ourselves on being an accessible society - you don't need a partner, ballroom gear, or any experience to get started. Our professionally taught lessons are reasonably priced at £5.10/hr with block discounts available but we also have free lessons taught by our exec if you would prefer this, and competitions are available to all regardless of skill level.
This Week's Schedule:
Monday Oct 20th |
6-7:15pm = Beginner Jive 7:15-8:30pm = Novice Waltz 8:30-9:45pm = Open Cha Cha Cha
📍County South LT
- Our Monday classes are led by our coach Craig. - Beginner classes are designed for anyone who has not learnt any ballroom or latin dancing before and will focus on learning basic moves and technique. You do not need a partner to take part in this class - Novice classes are designed for those who have been dancing for over a year. This class will focus on slightly harder steps than the beginner class and aims to develop attendees into more confident, well-rounded dancers. - Our open sessions are designed for those who have been dancing for a longer time. This class will focus on advanced technique and choreography and is aimed at those wishing to compete at Pre-intermediate to advanced levels. - Payment for these Monday classes is available on the LUSU website, as well as this there is an option to pay in card at the door. - If you are a returning member, you may have noticed that we are no longer running teams sessions. This was a decision made be Craig to try to reduce competitiveness on Mondays after feedback from the exec. Each level will now instead have 1hr 15mins each week for their class instead. |
