What is BJJ?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport focused on grappling and ground fighting. It teaches techniques designed to help practitioners control opponents through leverage, strategy, and technique, making it accessible to individuals of all sizes and abilities. BJJ emphasizes skill and technique over brute strength, offering a fun and effective way to improve fitness and learn self-defense.

Why You Should Join

Joining the BJJ Society is a fantastic opportunity to improve your fitness, learn self-defense, and become part of a supportive community. We hold regular competitions within the club and also compete against other universities, providing an exciting environment for skill development and camaraderie. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced practitioner, there’s a place for you here!

Social Events

We organize a variety of social events throughout the year to cater to all preferences. For those who enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere, we host UFC and other combat sports viewings, allowing members to gather and enjoy the excitement of the fights together. For those looking to socialize over drinks, we hold house parties, pub socials, and fun events like pub golf. We also collaborate with other societies for exciting nights out, providing great opportunities to connect with fellow members and make new friends!

Every member will be required to have been successfully supervised through a "Health and Safety Induction" prior to training.

Due to the nature of the sport, minor injuries are common and there is a possibility of major injuries, the Society cannot be held responsible for any injuries. We will show you all the safety procedures, but if an injury occurs after the health and safety induction has been delivered, the Society is not responsible.
