What is kickboxing and who are we as a society?

Kickboxing is one of the most versatile combat sports in the world, with a variety of traditional and modern forms. In our society, we prefer not to follow any one particular style, instead absorbing techniques from Karate, Taekwondo, Dutch and Thai styles in order to create a perfect blend for competitive success. Come along to our sessions to develop new skills, enjoy a friendly atmosphere and a satisfying workout, and become a badass along the way.

Womens+ inclusion

As a society we prioritise making this a safe and inclusive space for everyone. We run womens+ only sessions, with many self defence classes incorporated into this. We aim to increase confidence in beginner women so that they feel comfortable joining in general training - we would love to see you there, and had many new womens+ starters in 24/25 who joined our society and immediately felt comfortable in our friendly atmosphere. (We also have some incredible womens+ fighters on our fight team!! If you're joining with experience and want to compete reach out and join fight team!)

Socials?

Yes, we do socials!  Over the 24/25 academic year, socials have included a scavenger hunt, bar crawls, taskmaster, Halloween house party, BBQ, climbing and laser tag.

We have a fantastic socials schedule for this year and can't wait to start sharing it with everyone. Follow our Instagram @lukickboxing for more details and updates closer to the time (keep an eye on our whatsapp community as well - ask for the QR in session to join!).

FAQs

Q: I'm a beginner can I still join?

A: Yes of course! We are a beginner friendly society and cater to all abilities. We have lots of new starters year round so don't hesitate to join, our coaches are always happy to help you settle in.

Q: Do I need my own kit?

A: No don't worry - we have all the basics (gloves, pads, boots, shinguards). If you intend on sparring you will have to get a gumshield though.

Q: How can I compete?

A: We are always on the look out for interclubs with other unis, we go to the University Kickboxing Championships every year (in 24/25 we came home with two trophies!!), and we run a fight night joint with MuayThai. Anyone is welcome to begin their sparring journey.
