Description

Welcome to Lancaster University Korfball Club!

Whether you're keen to learn something new, compete at the top level of the sport, or simply stay active whilst meeting fellow students, Lancaster University Korfball Club has something for everyone!

What is korfball?

Often self-proclaimed as the "best sport you've never heard of", korfball is a fast-paced, mixed-gender team sport which combines elements of netball and basketball with a focus on teamwork and strategy. Our club has three teams who compete in weekly Sunday league matches against teams in the North West, two BUCS teams who represent Lancaster University at three weekendly tournaments across the season, and multiple opportunities to attend social tournaments from Edinburgh to Exeter and Newcastle to the Netherlands!

As a reasonably niche sport, the majority of our players have never played korfball before and know how daunting joining a new club can be, so don't be apprehensive, come on down to training and you'll soon pick it up!

How can I join korfball?

Come along to our free taster sessions on Friday 3rd October 12-2pm and Sunday 5th October 12:30-2pm (both in Sports Hall 1). All you'll need is basic sports kit (e.g. running gear and indoor trainers), a Free Taster Membership (which can be purchased through the "Join This Group" tab on this page) and a willingness to try something new!

If you can't make it to our taster sessions, new members are welcome to come along to our regular training sessions on Mondays 4:45pm-6:45pm and Wednesdays 7am-9am. All sessions up to October 26th are free to attend with a Taster Membership and will be specifically designed to be beginner-friendly! After October 26th, drop us a message on Instagram and we'll arrange a time for you to come try it out!

What else does korfball offer?

Our regular training sessions are a mixture of club sessions (where members of all abilities play together) and team sessions (where individual teams are taught separately by our team coaches). Our weekly club socials are an even split of sober and non-sober events, including pub crawls, club quizzes, board games, scavenger hunts, day trips, and nights out! Plus, if you're new to the sport, our annual ‘Freshers Tournament’ takes place on Saturday 25th October where teams from across the country compete against one another in Lancaster with a beginner-friendly competition.

To find out more, or to ask any questions, visit our social medias: @lancsunikorfball (Instagram), Lancaster University Korfball Club (Facebook) or drop us an email (korfball.su@groups.lancaster.ac.uk). We can't wait to see you soon!
