The university has announced they will be tripling the cost of parking in the Sports Field car park from £1 per day to £3 per day from 1st October - http://www.lancaster.ac.uk/sustainability/sustainability-practice/environmental-management/commuting-to-campus/car-parking-201718/.

This is an extortionate increase, well beyond inflation, and I think we need to know the reasons behind the decision. I would assume it will be framed as an environmental issue, but this won't stop people driving to university (for many, it will be the only option), it will just make more people park on streets in areas surrounding the university and clog up residential areas. The car park is not tarmacked, has huge holes which could damage suspension, and is not lined so people routinely block one another in - this is not an acceptable standard to pay £3 a day.

This change now means there is nowhere affordable to park on campus, which is disgraceful and needs addressing.

Say you go to uni 5 days a week for 30 weeks a year. That would have cost you £150 in parking per year. With the new price, you're now paying £450 in parking per year. £300 more every year is not acceptable, especially for a car park that's not tarmacked or looked after

I completely agree! There is nowhere else affordable to park on campus either, so that could lead to people parking in dangerous places and could increase accidents.

This is ridiculous. Driving in is my only option, a bus from where I live can take upwards of 90 minutes and is unreliable, a 200% increase in parking charges is wholly uncalled for, especially given the state of the car park. This will seriously affect my ability to attend lectures every day due to the expense.

Sometimes I feel like Universities are more interested in making money than in setting up students for life.

This is beyond a joke! Driving is my only option as I live 45mins from campus by car. There is no bus route. I could understand if the car park was maintained but it isn’t. The university need to show some special consideration for students who have no other option but to live off campus.
