In Week 29 Lancaster University Students’ Union School Project welcomed 50 students from Trumacar Primary to take part in a Health and Wellbeing Festival.
Children from the local primary school spent a day taking part in some sports not always readily available to them in school with Lancaster students from Women’s Rugby Union, Women’s Hockey, Korfball and Fencing.
20 Lancaster students spent the day showing young people the sport opportunities in higher education and for the teams to show the children theirs experiences of sport at Lancaster and how it has enhanced their time here.
It’s also a great chance for Lancaster students to be ambassadors for sport and role models for the wider community. Women’s Rugby said,
“Running rugby sessions with the kids was an incredibly rewarding experience and it was especially encouraging to see the excitement and enthusiasm many of the young girls showed towards learning and playing rugby.”
“It was a lot of fun showing kids how to play rugby! The kids were energetic and keen to learn. Seeing those smiles on their faces was simply adorable and rewarding. This hopefully is a good sign to get the kids interested in our sport as well as university!”.
Head of PE at Trumacar Primary, Chris Beckett said, “There were four great sports and we had a great day- thank you and all of your societies for putting together such a brilliant sessions.”
